Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden




Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is one of the very popular tourist hangouts in Sikkim, 24 kilometers away from Gangtok and is easily accessible by road. Established in the year 1987 the garden is now preserved by the Forest Department. Blessed with mesmerizing beauty, Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is full of greenery and serenity. It is located near Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim. It is a home to several species of plants, trees and flowers. Beautiful Flowers and Orchids of the Himalayan region are present in abundance here. Its ideal location at a high altitude ranging from 1800 m to 2220 m is the reason for its rich variety of plants and flowers

Gurudongmar Lake



Gurudongmar Lake -- one of the most beautiful, spectacular and sacred lakes surrounded on all sides by snow clad mountains.

Located at a height of 17,000 ft, the journey and the destination defy description. The 7-8 hour journey from Gangtok is through lush greenery and waterfalls as one reaches the Lachen village, which is the base for this trip. The excursion to Gurudongmar begins with a 4-5 hour drive through snow clad peaks and mountains till one reaches the Gurudongmar Lake.



Gurudongmar Lake at a height of 17100 ft, is among the top 15 highest lakes in the world and is the second highest lake in Sikkim as well as in India, the first being Cholamu lake at a height of 18000 ft, also situated in Sikkim.

By Train:
The nearest railhead is New Jalpaiguri which is well connected to most of the major cities in India.

By Air:
The nearest airport is Bagdogra near Siliguri, which is at a distance of 124 km from Gangtok. This airport is connected to Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati. International travelers can get connecting flights from Kolkata or Delhi. Both are well connected with many cities in India and abroad. Helicopter services are available from Bagdogra to Gangtok, only once during the day
